Hello, I'm Norramby, and this is why you should stop attacking diesel locomotives. Recently, I've started to think a lot about how many people dislike diesels due to Modernization. Because of this, I decided to make a project about it. So, here's why you should stop attacking diesel locomotives. In December 1954, BR published the "Modernization Papers", which replaced steam engines with diesel engines. This is where many people begin to hate diesels. Another major reason why many people dislike them partially stems from the previous one. In the television show, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, diesels are portrayed (for the most part) as jerks, heckbent on the destruction of steam. I could talk about the relationship between steam and diesel engines in the show/books, but that is a topic for the other day. However, given the fact that the main reason is the "scrapping" part, diesel haters have a very flawed argument. For example, take the Furness Railway K2. The class was withdrawn in 1931, twenty-three years before Modernization. With the logic of hating diesels, I should hate all the Furness K4s. I could give hundreds more examples, but the point I'm trying to make is that steam engines literally did the exact thing. And now, the same thing that once happened to steam engines is now happening to various diesels. In the early 80s, the BR Class 55 (it's in the thumbnail) was beginning to become withdrawn. Why do you think that there are steam engines on heritage railways? It's obviously because they were scrapped too, but people don't realize that. That's pretty much all I have to say, but thanks for reading! I think diesels are quite cool, #DELTICGANG.
