In case you weren't aware, today, Friday 4/23, is the National Day of Silence. It is a day when students choose to take a vow of silence during the school day as a means of protesting the bullying, harassment, and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community. I happen to know a lot of friends within said community who were really excited to do it that day, as was I. I prepared some "speaking cards" to explain what I was doing that day, dressed up just for the occasion, even wore a mask not too different from the one you see here. And then of course I had to catch a cold a week before it happened that still has yet to subside. So much for that plan, I guess. I tested negative for Covid-19, but that doesn't stop my ceaseless coughing from making me a threat to the general public, so here I am now, stuck home yet again. Even though I can't show my support in person today, at least I can do something about it remotely. And if you didn't know about the Day of Silence before, and just learned about it as you stumbled upon this random project, well, I suppose I've done my job in terms of spreading awareness. To all who chose to stay silent today in protest of the silencing of others, I hope your Day of Silence is a good one.
