Use the slide to turn the prism. Fun fact: 95% pen! Science - - - - - - - - - - - - How do different colors travel in a prism? This angle depends on the refractive index of the material in the prism, which can vary with wavelength of light. Wavelength of light in turn, corresponds to different colors of light. So these different colors will travel at different angles in the prism and exit as a "rainbow" or spectrum of colors, rather than as white light. How does a prism work and why does it work? A prism works because the different colors of light travel at different speeds inside the glass. Because the colors of light travel at different speeds, they get bent by different amounts and come out all spread out instead of mixed up. What is a prism made of? As the light from the sun passes through the prism, the light refracts (bends) and separates, making the colors of the visible spectrum. You can find different kinds of prisms made from both optic glass and acrylic.
