Description

Thanks Shimmer302 for the original project. code- Shimmer302 and me art-me buttons-shimmer302 and me Please don't blame if my art is bad. Please ask any questions if you have any questions or suggestion to add anything to the project? ----------------What is Sri Lankan new year?-----------------Sri Lankan is a celebration held for 2 days from April 13th to 14th. People from all over Sri Lanka and the globe celebrate this holiday. In Sinhala we call Sri Lankan New year Puthaandu or Aluth Avurudda. On April 13th we prepare for April 14th the official day. Like we cook the food for the new year table. On 14th we fast from late morning to around the afternoon. We make the new year table which involves food like milk rice ( kirkbath), fried sweets (kokis and kuvum), bananas, butter cake, coconut toffee (in Sri Lanka we call pol toffee which means coconut). We play games like pillow fighting while sitting on a pole, climbing a greasy pole, eating a donut while it’s hanging on a string without our hands race, coconut scraping, who can blow and pop the balloon race, spoon race, partner race, and more! We play other fun activities like drumming and dancing. We also wear traditional cloths which are shown on the project like little girls wear a dress called Rata hâta which is the small dress with flowers shown on the project. Boys wear the long swirly lined outfit. Adult women wear something called a sari which is the big dress shown here. Happy Sri Lankan new Year!
