Click the flag. Individual blues and pinks are randomly placed. Each individual changes color to match the majority of their neighbors. This is peer pressure.(or conformity to norms). Clustering results. Individuals will change color when anything more than 50% of their local neighbors have a different color (low tolerance for difference). But by clicking the "R" key you raise the resistance to peer pressure: individuals will change only if more than 70% of local neighbors are different in color. Clicking the "L" lowers the the resistance to peer pressure back to the original low level. ("Neighbors" are no more than one person away, no one has more than 8 neighbors)
Uses pen to get around the limitation in the number of clones. See also my "monkeys see monkey do" which is the same except uses clones instead of the pen. Clustering occurs. Notice that more clustering when you resistance to peer pressure is low (which is the default that runs when you hit the flag) compared to when resistance to peer pressure is higher (which you can initiate by hitting the space key)..
