Instructions

I EMERGED FROM the secret passageway into the kitchen, and dashed into the hall. I pressed against the wall, hidden behind the tapestry directly in front of it. I held my breath as footsteps walked past me, gently fading down the hall. It had been my first time out of my room for two days. The Prichards were coming today, and I was determined to be liberated. I dashed from the tapestry, up the stairs, and to the front door. Right as I was stepping out, my father grabbed me by the ruff, and harshly dragged me up the stairs more, and shoved me back into my room, promptly closing and locking my door. I scuffed my shoe against the hard wooden floor, muttering things. “What should I do now? I can’t just wait here and get married to that— well… UGH! I don’t know anymore!” I sank to my bed, stuffing my face into my silken sheets. Later that day, I heard a knock on my door, but I refused to open it. If it was Maeryn, I didn’t want to answer it. “Vigilius,” a female voice said. I sighed, and went to the door. “What do you want?” I said through the lock. “Look, I don’t want this as much as you do,” she said. “What?” I opened the door. A girl with curly blonde hair was standing there, dressed in Simrieg’s colors; blue and silver. “I don’t want to get married,” she said plainly. I sighed, and let her in. “I don’t want it either,” She shook her head, and stepped through my doorway. “I can’t believe I’ve been engaged to two men my whole life!” “What do you mean?” She rolled her eyes. “Does it matter? My real fiancé is the prince of Albannak,” The prince of Albannak… I thought, betrothed to two people, me and the prince of the treacherous Albannak. My cousin. “You look shocked!” “You noticed?” I scoffed. “You needn’t act so surprised that I knew. I have been around men my whole life!” That made sense. Her siblings were all male, and older than her. My cousin wouldn’t gain anything other than a wife with the title of ‘princess’. I nodded. “Uh… huh… Well. Make yourself at home then. I have… to go.” I bolted out, not wanting to be with my betrothed any longer. “You can’t try that,” she said, moving in front of me. She was surprisingly nimble for one in a huge dress. “I’ve heard everything from your father. He said that you weren’t allowed out of your room,” I didn’t care about what Father thought. I had to get out of here! I didn’t want to be trapped in my room with the only person I’ve truly hated. We talked for a while more about our countries. Something she said caught my attention.

Description

Read ^ First!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- “What’s your other fiancé like?” I asked, slightly curious. “You know, they said that you were snooty, I doubt you are as they say.” Yeah… I’ve changed. Because of Hana… I thought. “Well?” I pushed, externally ignoring her comment. “He’s sweet…” her eyes were dreamy. “He’s overprotective of me, though. He was doing something for his country in yours for the entire duration of the war, so I haven’t seen him very often. He’s returned now,” she laughed, “he told his fake belle that he was going to war to spend time with me before we wed! And while I’m here, he’s to give his information to his father.” her laugh turned maniacle. “He’s a genius,” Belle, overprotective, going to WAR?! SPYING ON HER?!?! My eyes grew wide, and the world turned dark. “Vigilius?” Maeryn said above me. Her face was a blur. I clawed at it, but she laughed and moved away. The world lit up again. Peter is her betrothed! I had to get out of here! Peter is my cousin! THE PRINCE OF ALBANNAK! THE ENEMY! PETER! This alliance isn’t going to help a thing! I opened the window in my bathroom cautiously, making sure that the hinges didn’t creak. I threw the rope (which I had tied to the tub) out. After my previous attempts at escaping, this was the most foolproof. I waited until nightfall to try my scheme again. I had tied my sheets together, making somewhat of a rope. I looked at the ground, at least fifty feet below me. The world inverted, and my vision turned woozy from the height. “Okay… bad idea,” I said aloud. But Hana!! She needs to know! I thought. I jumped, the makeshift rope in hand. The ground rushed towards me, but about two feet to the ground, the rope ended. I gasped, and carefully reached my foot to the ground and stepped down. I saw a carriage with the school’s seal on it, and decided it was my best bet if I were to find Hana again. I clambered in. A long carriage ride later, I hopped out. I sidled around the side of the school, the moat sprawling out in front of me. I felt along the outer stone wall, looking for the kitchen door. I walked the familiar halls in search of those beautiful hazel eyes. I stormed her room, not caring what she may be doing. She wasn’t there. I checked everywhere in the school, but not the fifth floor. If I were caught by Kieser… things wouldn’t go too well. Tears welled in my eyes. Where is she? I thought. She should be here! She’s probably with Peter, no matter how much of a jerk he really is, he’s still playing it with her, a voice in my head said. I started the long hike back to my palace. Though I would have much preferred to stay in the school with all of my friends, I couldn’t go missing again. That would be too suspicious. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Indeed, Louie. Much too suspicious.
