Today (April 2nd) is National Ferret Day, my favorite National day! ; ) Ferrets are very flexible, allowing them to turn around in tight spaces, almost folding themselves in half! They make a wide variety of noises, but the most well known one is the dook. It sounds like a squeak. Some ferrets don't dook as often as others. Fiona, my ferret, would dook when she got hurt. Oxford (another ferret) likes to dook when he's feeling very playful. When excited, ferrets (and other members of the weasel family) will do a dance called the weasel war dance. In the wild, it is used to scare off or confused predators. They often arch their back, open their mouths, and appear to "bounce" around, sometimes blundering into objects. They make loving and adorable pets, too! They love to play, and do well with other animals around their size. Happy National Ferret Day! :D
