Hello peeps! I just decided to write this Scratch series called the Wolves of Obsidian and this is the next chapter. Cover by @squirrelflight1010! suddenly doing loads of chapters. It's because Wolves of Obsidian will have 40-40+ chapters and how do I put it- I want to get them out of the way and also I for once know what I'll put in these chapters. I'll be doing bonus chapters as well so don't fret! Anyway, enjoy! CHAPTER 39 Obsidian dragged herself backwards, beyond the prone, cold body of Ember. The grey and cream male - Havoc - lowered his head, bunching up his hind legs, and sprang, bowling into Obsidian and knocking her flat. Obsidian gave a shrieking howl of pain as his claws tore along her side and his fangs ripped at her soft, exposed throat. She kicked out in vain with her hind legs as the rest of EmberPack surrounded her, biting her, raking, clawing... Suddenly, there was a loud volley of barks and growls from across the clearing. EmberPack raised their heads, eyes widening. A single growl. A scuffle of paws. Silence. EmberPack had frozen. So had Obsidian. And slowly, as EmberPack relaxed their aggressive postures and flicked their malevolent-eyed gave to Obsidian...Three wolves lunged from the bushes, lips wrinkled and ears pressed back in fury. Obsidian could barely hold in a shocked bark. The wolves were none other than Pheasant, Swiftflight and Lynx. Lynx's eyes were wild and a low growl of rage was rumbling in his throat. Pheasant's fur was puffed up in fury, and his blue eyes sparked with deadly power. And Swiftflight's posture was firm and menacing and her long front fangs were bared. EmberPack stayed frozen where they were. Then slowly, stiff-legged, a wolf Obsidian recognised as the wolf Ember had called Gladys stepped forward, lowering her head. "Come to take back your half-dead Alpha, WeaklingPack?" she snarled, spit bubbling at her lips. Obsidian saw Swiftflight's eyes flick to her and saw her give a gasp of horror and outrage. "What have you DONE to her?" she growled, and Obsidian could see her heart pounding against her chest. EmberPack seemed to be regaining their confidence at the sudden appearance and were beginning to slink forward to Gladys' side, shoulders hunched aggressively. As the three DarkPacks glared steadily at EmberPack, more and more wolves peeled from their positions at trees - behind rocks - under bushes... and came to stand by Pheasant, Swiftflight and Titan's side. Through a thick fog, Obsidian saw Onyxclaw, Creekheart and a silhouette that couldn't have been - how could it, Obsidian reflected. It looked like Shadowfang. All of DarkPack stood there now, noble heads raised and claws flexing in their sockets. And suddenly, making EmberPack and DarkPack alike jump, Pheasant let out a wild cry. "Let the Final Battle be won!" That seemed to serve as a signal for both Packs because, at that same moment, both sides clashed. Obsidian staggered to her paws, keen to join the battle. She felt weak - but the sight of her Pack courageously battling Ember's minions gave her strength and with a rasping growl, she leaped into the fray. Sharp claws flailed at her ears and eyes, teeth bit down near her hind paws and haunches. Obsidian whipped around with a choking whimper as teeth clipped her flank and she sprang, jaws gaping, and her teeth met flesh. Obsidian and Savaclaws rolled over and over. Savageclaws lives well up to his name, Obsidian thought numbly as the EmberPack hunters' claws ripped at her chest. I need to end this fight quickly. Obsidian once again unhinged her jaws and that feeling of power overtook her - that feeling of righteous anger that she was doing the right thing - as she sprayed lava along Savageclaws' neck and chest. The Pheasant-look-alike sprang off Obsidian, his high, shrieking howl pounding in her ears as he collapsed, jerking, great spasms racking his whole body as he departed. Obsidian turned around to see Bloodsight, a DarkPack, former-EmberPack rake her claws along the jawline of EmberPack's Beta, Raven. The black she-wolf stumbled off, eyes glazing as the albino lunged at her and it was over. As Obsidian watched, slowly, EmberPacks began to break off out of the fight, fleeing, leaving droplets of crimson behind in their wake. Obsidian leaped at another EmberPack, hardly feeling her injuries any more as she blinded him with one jerk of her head. He stumbled off her and fled, his tail tucked tight between his legs and his sightless eyes rolling disgustingly in their sockets. Suddenly, pain flared all along Obsidian's chest and throat and she gave a strangled screech, tumbling, spasming onto the ground. It was Gladys. The vicious EmberPack she-wolf had raked her claws along Obsidian's neck and chest leaving deep, heavily bleeding clawtracks. The fog that had shrouded Obsidian's vision thickened until she couldn't see... All she could see was red - blood and faint, moving silhouettes of DarkPack(cont)

Description

(cont) as they gathered silently around her. Obsidian gave a faint whimper, her movement dying. A clear, strong thought that overtook all raced fleetingly in her skull. Your time is over. You've served your pack well. Now she could see the welcoming shape of Shadowfang, waiting for her in Lupus' Hunting Grounds. Then there was only black. Silence. The Wolves of Obsidian had won. But with one great sacrifice. Obsidian. Stay tuned for the Epilogue!
