Hello peeps! I just decided to write this Scratch series called the Wolves of Obsidian and this is the next chapter. Enjoy! Cover by @squirrelflight1010! CHAPTER 33 "Obsidian.... Obsidian...." Obsidian pricked her ears, circling on the spot to face the owner of the deep, rumbling, rasping voice - like gravel scraping against paw. Only one wolf spoke like that.... "Shadowfang!" Obsidian barked in joy, her tail wagging in a frenzy. Her stormy-grey eyes scoured the dark, blood-splattered cliffs, and peaks of rock around her until they landed on a large, quivering bundle. Obsidian's eyes widened and her heart thumped, straining her chest in worry. "Shadowfang?" she asked, more uncertainly now, padding softly up to sniff at the great black bundle. It was Shadowfang. The once-mighty wolf looked truly weak and exhausted, his amber eyes filled with pain and fatigue and his tail hanging limp and low. "What happened to you?" Obsidian whined to the air. Shadowfang gave a great, rasping breath and struggled to his paws, his claws scraping on rock. Obsidian quietly fell back, waiting for him to speak to her. "I feel weak," Shadowfang growled hoarsely at last. "More weak than even the moments before my death. I don't know what has happened. I think I'm fading away..." Obsidian gave a sharp yelp of fear and horror. "Don't speak like that! You're just... having... an..." she struggled for words as she nosed at his scraggy flank. The world blurred in a haze around her - the only way she knew that the Jagged Cliffs she was standing on now was a dream-land. "...An off day." Shadowfang finished her sentence for her, looking weakly amused. "Obsidian, there's only one way to help me now. One way to save me. That way is-" he broke off in a violent bout of coughs, spasms racking his whole huge body. Obsidian licked at him desperately, pawing at his scruff as if it would stop his agony. "Shadowfang! How can I help?" she asked, shaking him gently with her forepaw. "Tell me! I can't lose you after all we've been through together..." Shadowfang before her, even now, was blurring, swaying, his eyes just deep pools of gaunt shadows now, his tail just a blurred mess behind him against the grey rock. "No! Shadowfang stay with me longer!" Obsidian howled - or thought she did but she couldn't tell. She felt choked and her howl echoed, ringing out so far away she almost thought it belonged to another wolf, one in a distant land. As the world tipped, great chasms opened in the Cliffs, splitting them wide open. Obsidian gave a demented cry of torture and tried to lunge towards Shadowfang, but one of the rolling boulders smacked into her flank, crushing one of her hind legs. "Shadowfang!" Obsidian shrieked, her paws scrabbling at loose stones that came away, tumbling and falling. "To save me..." Although Shadowfang was separated from Obsidian by a great fissure, she heard his voice as clearly as if he were beside her, trapped next to her. "Kill Ember." Obsidian gave a strangled gasp as the boulder rolled even further along her body, crushing her other leg and the base of her spine under its agonising weight. Kill Ember. Shadowfang's words rang in her head painfully, battering, cracking her skull. The world tipped for a final time and the great pressure crushing her legs and spine intensified until she could bear the pain no longer and sank into darkness - the last thing she saw before she was plunged into the waking world was Shadowfang, jaws gaping wide in a silent scream of fear as the ground gave way beneath his burly body and he dropped like a stone, falling, falling, to his doom....
