Redtail shook his head, sadly. "Bluestar, you can't be trusted anymore." "You are treating me like a kit!" Bluestar hissed, from inside her cold den. The warriors of StarClan shined above them, and the Clan was asleep. "You acted like one. I am going to have a private trial for you." Redtail hated saying this to his leader, but... It was her fault that RiverClan was prepared and ready for ThunderClan's attack on Sunningrocks. It was her fault that Lionheart and Darkstripe nearly died. "I am choosing Whitestorm... Spottedleaf... and Tigerclaw to participate in the trial." Redtail decided it was a just audience. Bluestar hissed and curled up in a ball, muttering something indistinct. Redtail shook his head and went to his nest for the night. . . . In the morning, the sun shone brightly. Redtail had called Dustpaw to collect the cats who would participate in the trial, and bring them to Bluestar's den. Redtail had set out patrols, so there was no reason for the Clan to need him during the trial. Whitestorm looked at Bluestar with sympathy. Tigerclaw flicked his tail. Spottedleaf looked like she couldn't believe what she was here for. Redtail had already told them, though. "Today we gather here in private to discuss the fate of Bluestar," Redtail murmured, his bushy tail flicking anxiously in the dark den. "We know of her crimes," Tigerclaw muttered. "Skip that bit." Whitestorm sent him a dark glance, and Tigerclaw did not respond. "What do you have to say for yourself, Bluestar?" Whitestorm said, darkly. "I was forced to kill my daughter, Mistyfoot," Bluestar paused, waiting for a surprised gasp. "They know of your kits," Redtail blinked, respectfully. "Well, then. I couldn't let my son die the same way Mistyfoot did. Under the paws of a filthy warrior." Redtail sighed, Bluestar having thought of herself only negatively since the battle where she had slain her daughter. "So, I saved him by stopping ThunderClan from winning." Tigerclaw looked like he wanted to snarl at the leader, and, to Redtail's surprise, so did Whitestorm. Spottedleaf shook her head sadly. "Bluestar, you cannot remain leader after-" Tigerclaw cut her off. "Let's drive her out as we would any traitor," he spat, "Or kill her now." Bluestar looked from each cat, worried. "No," Whitestorm said. "She is under a lot of stress. Let her retire peacefully to the Elder's den, as Bluefur the warrior who served her Clan well." Spottedleaf nodded. Tigerclaw sheathed his claws and nodded. Redtail took a deep breath. "Do you accept this offer, Bluestar?" Bluestar was shaking. "If I go, ThunderClan falls." She paused. "I will join the elders. I will announce this to the Clan." As the cats retreated from the den, Bluestar stopped Redtail. "My mind is clouded," She murmured, hurriedly. "But I remember Sunstar." "You see, the leader before him, Pinestar, left to become a kittypet." Redtail nodded. He knew this. "But since Pinestar was alive, Sunstar only received eight lives." Redtail exhaled slowly. "I understand this, Bluestar." Bluestar nodded, and smiled distantly before leaving the den. "Lead my Clan well, Redtail." --> Part 2 (of ch. 6) <-- Ravenpaw was fighting his mentor, training. It had been a day since Bluestar- Bluefur, now, retired to the Elder's den. Ravenpaw bit down on Tigerclaw's thigh, and was shaken off. He was relieved to see Tigerclaw was pleased with the training he was doing. "Maybe, if you keep this up," his mentor spoke, "I will let you train with Firepaw." Ravenpaw puffed, shaking his dusty pelt. "What about Graypaw?" "Graypaw is a soft kittypet." Tigerclaw scolded. "Well, so is Firepaw." "Not for long. He's better at training then you are!" Tigerclaw said. Ravenpaw nodded. "I'll be better." Tigerclaw nodded, too. "You'd better be. Now, practice that spin and kick move again." Ravenpaw went back to his training.
