Rustyfoot sat blindly in the medicine den, while Shadepaw sat quietly behind him. She nodded. Snowstar realized what this meant. It meant that she would never be able to go hunting with her closest friend again. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she knew there was nothing she could do for him. She couldn't stand to see her best friend so miserable. She got up and went to fetch Sparrowlight. "and now my one goal is to be the best Warrior, so I can save more people. Fluffkit's death made me realize that I've been lazy and wasn't working hard enough to save him." Snowstar heard Mintmoss explaining as she approached the three. Snowstar noticed how sickly and thin Mintmoss looked. "Sparrowlight, Rustyfoot's awake, but he's lost his sight." Snowstar said, sitting down. "Mintmoss, I have to talk to you." Snowstar said. Toadstone, who was sitting nearby nodded and stood up, padding off to the warrior's den. "Mintmoss, you're overworking yourself. Look at you! your fur is falling out, you're skinny, and you look very sick." Snowstar said concern in her unsteady voice. "You should go see Troutpool." Snowstar told her. "I'm doing fine, and besides, if I'm so bad, then you're in terrible shape." Mintmoss said nonchalantly. Snowstar winced at her harsh but true words. "I visited Shadepaw. I'm trying to be better. You should too." Snowstar said. Mintmoss scoffed and left the camp to go practice her battle moves. Snowstar glanced towards the medicine den, and Sparrowlight was leading Rustyfoot out of camp. "Where are you two going?" Snowstar asked. "I'm taking Rustyfoot to stretch his legs." Sparrowlight said. Snowstar could see in Sparrowlight's dark brown eyes that she wasn't entirely telling the truth, but Snowstar decided not to say anything about it. "Clan meeting!" Snowstar yelled from the highrock. "Tonight I'm giving four apprentices their warrior names!" In the audience, Starpaw stared shamefully at her paws. She must not have passed, Snowstar thought sympathetically. She moved on. Skipperpaw, Daisypaw, Windpaw, and Rockpaw became Skipperstone, Daisyheart, Windwhisker, and Rockdapple. "Clan dismissed!" Snowstar announced. Snowstar decided to look around the clan to find Sparrowlight and Rustyfoot to see how they were doing. She looked in all the dens, and they hadn't returned. Sh dashed out of camp, not even stopping to explain why she was in such a hurry when Sundrop asked her. She ran through the tall swamp grasses. She passed the serpent she'd encountered this morning. It was dead. But Rustyfoot and Sparrowlight were nowhere to be found. End of Part Seven
