(because of character limits in descriptions and lack of motivation to write an entire chapter quick enough to provide a new one daily, some chapters will be cut up into parts) Chapter 1, part 1: Void grew up never knowing his parents. He was adopted, he knew that, but he never met them. He barely knew anything about his birth parents, he only knew their names: Umber and Lavender. He often wondered why he was separated from his birth parents. As far as he knew, Cobalt and SkyRacer were his only caretakers. They never told him what had happened to his real ones, and often dodged the question when he asked. Either way, he knew better than to complain. He had 2 mothers, and he loved them. Or well, mostly Cobalt. He always felt closer to her than Skyracer. From a very young age, it was mostly Cobalt that he had most of his fond memories with. Cobalt was the one who read him bedtime stories when he was still a very little hatchling, she was the one who taught him everything he needed to know (Skyracer tried teaching him fighting moves, but practically gave up and abandoned it in a matter of days). Cobalt Cobalt Cobalt. Cobalt was his favorite mother. She always hushed him whenever he said so out loud, but he doesn’t really think that Skyracer cares all that much. Skyracer was.. Well.. Was something. He never felt that same warm closeness to her as he did with Cobalt. Of course he loved his other mother, but she was always the one to lecture him or teach him some sort of life lesson. Things she taught him were useful, incredibly useful and have helped him get out of a pinch with bullies more times than he could count, but there was always an invisible wall of detachment between him and the Head Knight. Well, his mother wasn’t his biggest problem right now anyways. What WAS his biggest problem, was that he was over 5 years old and still unable to fly. His wings didn’t look like they grew one bit since his hatching day. Whenever he asked Cobalt about this she always smiled and assured him that he was just a late bloomer, though Void could see the worry and dread behind her light yellow eyes. Was he going to be flightless forever? Airborne Hatchlings start flying at around 3 years old after all. Of course, not being able to fly at the right age came with other problems. More specifically, social problems. He still remembered the time Skyracer took him to a flight day camp after he turned 3 Flash back Young Void sat in a line of other hatchlings his age, who were all buzzing and chattering to each other with excitement. He nervously glanced at the other Falline younglings, to their wings, and then to his own. His wings had always been small, but looking at the other Fallines his age had made him realize just how disproportionate they really were. He hadn’t realized it before simply because he wasn’t really around other Fallines his age. He was quite sheltered from society, being honest. He heard a snicker come from near him and looked over to find a few other young Fallines his age glancing over at his wings with cruelly amused eyes, and then laughing to each other. Void puffed up his cheeks and tucked his wings closer to himself, ears folded in embarrassment. He looked up as a shadow moved over him, and down came an elegant looking female Falline. She was several shades of red and pink, and was decorated in many gold accessories including a medallion around her neck. She held a younger Falline around Void’s age. That, is when he first saw her. The Falline hatchling was a fare light rose pink with splotches of darker pink and white all along her face and body, icy blue feathers, light blue wings that flowy faded to white around the edges, and stunning icy eyes that looked like calm cool glaciers. She wore only a gold necklace with 5 small rubies. She was beautiful. She reminded Void of the flowers that Cobalt brought home often and decorated the house with them in glass vases. His attention was once again pulled as he felt a sharp nudge in his side. He flinched in surprise and turned to the Falline his age that was now next to him. The Falline that had nudged him was the same one that had been making fun of him with their friends, and still held a mean smug look on his face that made Void want to disappear entirely. “Dude” The brown Falline with warm fire colored feathers and wings snickered. “What is up with your wings?! Did you hatch late or something?” The other hatchling’s words made Void’s stomach churn. Was that why he didn’t know his real parents? Did he take too long, and they gave up on him? “Sunset! Why are you talking to the weird kid?” Sunset. So that was his name. The Falline in question rolled his eyes at one of his friends- or at least Void thinks they were friends. Maybe more of an entourage.
“I’m investigating” He said matter-of-factly. He grabbed one of Void’s tiny wings, which made him stiffen. No one ever really touched his wings before, and the sensation was unpleasant, uncomfortable, and gave Void a rushing stab of anxiety in his gut all at the same time. “Weird wings over here isn’t talking, so I’m finding answers myself”. Void finally realized he hadn’t said a word this entire interaction, and somehow still couldn’t will himself to speak. He glanced over to where the mysterious Falline was, and found that she had been moved to sit in the line. She was quite far down, and who she assumed was her mother was watching from a rocky overhang. The instructor looked as though they had just had a very long argument about her sitting with her daughter in the line of Hatchlings, and by the sour look on her face as she watched like a hawk, the instructor must have won. Void was grateful when the instructor began to talk and Sunset had to go back to his group, though felt himself getting more and more bored by the minute as the instructor droned on about strategies and mechanics of flight such as the way to angle your wings and feathers, landing and takeoff techniques, and how to gain/lose altitude. Void made sure to hang onto every word, though he felt the creeping feeling of his anxiety and nervousness return. Flying was so, so incredibly complicated. How could Void ever remember it all? “Now that you know how you’re supposed to fly, let's learn how to really fly” The instructor said finally. “First, you start by gliding. Who here volunteers to go first” Void had no intention of going first. Never. Not even when Sunstone forgets to bring the day. Sunset, however, must have seen his chance and pushed Void forward so that the black furred Airborne stumbled forward from the line. “Ah, yes you. Come up first.” (To be continued) Characters, Art, Writing and rp by me Previous Chapter: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/499109646/ Next Chapter: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/500240416/
