Hello peeps! I just decided to write this Scratch series called the Wolves of Obsidian and this is the next chapter. Enjoy! Cover by @squirrelflight1010! CHAPTER 25 Bloodsight's pelt burned with anger as Rocksnarl's bloodshot eye fell upon her. "I did nothing," she muttered under her breath, but still obediently skulking over to Obsidian. "NOTHING. Yet this pathetic, ratty wolf challenges me after I fought Ember alongside him? Lupus, why couldn't you have killed him in the Battle of the Jagged Cliffs?" It had all gone by so fast. And now... Bloodsight pawed the ground, her chest heaving with distressed pants. Oh, Lupus, she thought despairingly. Has my time to die come? NO! the rebellious word shot through her mind, taking her breath away. Don't think like that, Bloodsight! You survived in EmberPack... survive now! End this. As Rocksnarl lunged at her, she feinted to the side and he lumbered past her, skidding and tripping in the wet mud. Bloodsight ran her tongue over her sharp front fangs so they gleamed and narrowed her eyes, trying to conjure up a harsh insult. "Is that all you can do?" she taunted, hopping from paw to paw with electrifying energy. "I wonder how you even got to the rank of third wolf in DarkPack...." Clearly, her words stung like Obsidian's lava and Rocksnarl's hackles rose so high that he looked almost twice his size. Oh, Bloodsight, Bloodsight thought, taking a wary step back. That was a stupid idea- Her thoughts were interrupted by a bellowing howl as Rocksnarl lunged at her, jaws snapping and slavering. Out of the corner of her eye, Bloodsight felt Swiftflight's anxious gaze tracing her every move. Irritation sparked under her pelt, flaring and she gave a malicious snarl to cover up her anger. Look away! she told herself furiously. Concentrate! You're in a battle, Bloodsight. At that precise moment, Rocksnarl reached her, and sank his teeth into her front leg. Bloodsight shrieked, trying and failing to tear her limb from his grasp. She wriggled, writhing against his intense grip. All around her, barks of excitement grew and a few yips broke from the throats of some of the younger wolves at the scent of her blood. To her left, Brightpool, the partially deaf white wolf yelped advice. "Bloodsight! Kick out and get him off before he can crunch your bone!" Bloodsight's whole body shivered with effort and she let out a low growl. She felt Rocksnarl's fangs sink deeper, deeper... She had to make her move now. With a high pitched, screeching howl she bent her elegantly long neck and grazed her teeth harshly along the bend in Rocksnarl's neck. Rocksnarl gave a faint snarl of panic as he realized he had just exposed Bloodsight his most delicate part of his body, Bloodsight could hear it rumbling in his throat. She was strengthened by his flash of fear, and raked her one good forepaw down the back of his neck, drawing a long, thin, ugly line alone the crook of his neck. Bloodsight kicked out with her heavily-muscled hind legs and finally managed to detach Rocksnarl. Both circled each other, tongues lolling from their jaws as they eyed each other up warily. Obsidian's booming voice interrupted. "According to the Great Stone Tablets, a battle like this can only end in submission or death." Bloodsight felt herself replying: "I will not kill another wolf. Too many deaths have happened these many moons. I will end this." That moment, Rocksnarl jumped at her, paws extended and Bloodsight felt their heads clash in an explosion of dizzying pain. She ignored the fuzziness entering her skull and bore down on Rocksnarl, teeth bared. Rocksnarl's sides were mauled from Bloodsight's cruel bites and nips, and his neck was torn from her worrying claws. She could see the whites of his eyes as her paws extended from him. Coward! The cheek of him; challenging me, she thought, indignant. That one, clear thought banished all fuzziness from her mind and she let out a low, terrifying snarl. With one flick from her paw, she tore a gash in Rocksnarl's chest then whacked him with her other, injured paw. A twinge of pain shot through her hurt paw and she winced, but still gave a triumphant growl when he came crashing down, winded. She limped forward nobly and pressed a paw, claws dangerously close to his neck, on his torn chest. "Yield," she spat. "Or die." The rage that was in Rocksnarl's eyes when they began the battle, totally deserted him, leaving a deep-rooted terror. "I submit," he snarled, his voice raspy and weak. "But don't think this is the end..." "Very well," Obsidian growled, raising her voice above the clamour of congratulating barks from the spectators. She looked mildly shocked, as if she expected Bloodsight to have killed Rocksnarl after all. "Rocksnarl has yielded and Bloodsight, therefore, won the battle. Rocksnarl has faced his fear; but not actually defeated it." A note of inexplicable, lilting satisfaction entered her tone. Bloodsight stepped back, spitting out blood.
