A long-furred cat laid in a small clearing, breathing deeply, fast asleep. The trees around her were tall and green, and seemed to shiver with untold knowledge. The forest grew strangely silent as the cat drearily lifted her head. Her bright orange eyes flashed with fear as she scrambled to her paws. “Hello?” she called into the woods. Tears pooled into the corner of her eyes, and she wrapped her light brown tail around her paws as she sat down heavily. Her ears and eyes flicked up as a rustling began in the bushes near her. “Calm yourself.” A beautiful tortoiseshell appeared, her long brown and orange fur seeming to sparkle with countless stars. “Your time has not come yet.” The strange cat strode gracefully up to the light brown tabby, who had stood back up. “Marigoldwing!” the brown she-cat gasped. She padded hesitantly up to the shimmering cat, and after a moment, pressed her nose to her cheek. “I missed you…” Marigoldwing relaxed at the affectionate gesture, allowing herself to purr a little. Yet she was the first to pull away, saying, “Sagebelly, my kit. I am here to deliver a message from StarClan itself.” Sagebelly’s ears pricked. “A prophecy? Are you going to tell us how to fix the illness?” Her stomach twisted at the thought of the disease that was eating through all of the clans. Many had already died, and there were no herbs known to cure it. Still, the small lilac cat found the chance that her ancestors had discovered a cure unlikely. After all, why wouldn’t they just tell the medicine cats? Marigoldwing’s long, pure white tail drooped. “I am afraid not. But that’s what you’re gonna fix.” Sagebelly opened her mouth to respond, but Marigoldwing continued before the tabby could interrupt. “You are going with two other cats, one from each clan. You will be the representative of TreeClan. Your mission will be to find the cure for this disease, and bring it back to the clans.” “But Marigoldwing,” Sagebelly interrupted softly, “why me? I’m no super experienced warrior, and I know nothing about herbs. Also…” She turned her orange gaze down towards her white-tipped toes. Marigoldwing covered her daughter’s paw with a white flecked paw of her own. “I know you are expecting kits. But you were chosen. Believe me, factors were… taken into account. And you turned out to be the best cat for the job.” Sagebelly yanked her paw back. “What about--” She broke off as the tortoiseshell across from her lifted her white tail for silence. “Your mate… is sick.” Alright guys!
