Hello peeps! I just decided to write this Scratch series called the Wolves of Obsidian and this is the next chapter. Enjoy! Cover by @squirrelflight1010! CHAPTER 22 Xgore/violence warningX Obsidian saw, out of the corner of her eye, as she and Ember clashed, Swiftflight collapsing. "No!" she howled aloud. Fury welled up slowly and scarily within her, and she felt her whole body swell. She no longer felt herself. She felt huge, fierce and furious. As she glared at Ember before her, she realized he seemed to have shrunk a little bit. Or she had grown. His eyes had widened, and for a second she saw a glint of fear in them, but it disappeared as quickly as it had come as he drew himself up. His yellow eyes glinted maliciously in the constant flashes of lightning, but Obsidian wasn't scared. With a screech, she lunged at him, raking her claws down his muzzle. In return, Ember shrieked in pain and anger and bit down hard on her leg. Pain shattered through Obsidian and she yowled, struggling wildly, kicking out with her powerful hind legs. One of her legs grazed his chest and found purchase, digging into Ember's raw, red chest. Ember roared and drew back, his forked tongue slipping out of his mouth in a ferocious pant as he eyed Obsidian evilly up. Without warning, he sprang, his massive front paws smacking into Obsidian and pinning her down. She was conscious the wolves around her - EmberPack and DarkPack - had stopped battling, well, what was left of them, and had formed a quiet circle around the brawling warriors, blocking them in a sinister Battle Circle. Many of Obsidian's Pack were injured; ears ripped, muzzles slashed, sides torn. Obsidian felt an unexpected seed of grief sow itself deep into her heart. It grew until almost unbearable, flowering and budding into a painful plant that seared through Obsidian's chest like the fangs of Ember. Obsidian gave a deep growl. "I must end this." Then she jumped at Ember. The world tilted as she flew higher and higher up, both of the Packs' eyes trained on her as she shot like a bolt of pure, fiery lightning through the air. Then, she was falling, falling. She braced her legs for a bone-crushing landing, and she soon felt it. Her claws had sunk deep into Ember's disgusting, rotted flesh, so deep that she felt something click. The mighty Alpha of EmberPack screamed, staggering, staggering.... He didn't see the edge until it was too late. Obsidian tugged her legs free of his body as he hurtled right over the edge, his shrieks echoing furiously through the air, ripping the atmosphere. The Packs stood there, stunned. Then slowly, EmberPack's Beta gave a shrill, screeching howl. "Our Alpha! Our Alpha is dead! Retreat!" Then EmberPack turned tail, the mighty, brutal Pack that had flooded and almost eliminated DarkPack completely, had now turned into shivering, fleeing bundles of fur as they departed, leaving behind the injured of their members, to be swiftly killed by Bloodsight. Obsidian was still frozen, her chest heaving in shock, but as she peered over the jagged, broken edge of the Cliffs, she saw no broken, bleeding body on the rocks. No massive, still corpse to prove that Ember was dead. A ripple of fear shivered down her spine and she hurriedly stepped away from the edge. Somehow, she knew that she'd feel something, a departing spirit when Ember was dead. But she didn't. He's alive, she thought fearfully, tracing a paw through a pile of bloodstained pebbles. I know that's not the last I've seen of him.
