This project was uploaded to the Scratch website in 2005 by a TypeKey user named rosenbaum. For those of you wondering, yes, it predates Weekend. Because Scratchers did not exist in 2005, this project, along with several others, disappeared from the Scratch website when ScratchR went live in March 2007. The project is so old that it actually predates the .SB file format, taking the form of a .SCRATCH file instead. Thankfully, .SCRATCH files appear to be pretty much the exact same as .SB files, so Scratch 1.4 can open them without issue (as long as you change the extension first). Opening a pre-1.0 project in 2.0 or later has the unfortunate side effect of breaking large chunks of code. Luckily, saving the project in 1.4 first fixes this issue. Sharing old projects using 1.4 also fixes an issue with Scratch 1.0 projects that causes sounds to get compressed in a way that Scratch 2.0 and 3.0 are not compatible with. This results in a loud static noise, and it's why Weekend sounds the way it does. Notice how the cat is using a generic design, rather than the Scratch Cat we're all used to? That's because prior to 2007, the Scratch Cat didn't actually exist. This placeholder cat sprite would later become Cat2 in the Scratch 1.x costume library, existing alongside Cat1 (the Scratch Cat), and eventually getting a vector redesign for Scratch 2.0. #games #music
