Estimates by me may differ from official reports - Hurricane Laura was a very strong Hurricane that occurred in Late-August 2020. Laura started off as a tropical wave off the coast of Africa before moving west. Just east of the Greater Antilles, the tropical wave was identified as a cyclone, and was named Laura soon after. Laura moved through the Greater Antilles, and despite the mountainous terrain, Laura did not weaken much and actually strengthened slightly. Laura then moved into the gulf and rapidly intensified, peaking just short of category 5 intensity. Laura weakened slightly prior to landfall, but the effects were still very severe, with widespread damage and major storm surge. Just 6 weeks later, Hurricane Delta also hit the same area, making things even worse. Laura was the first storm I ever animated, and this will be my 50th animation.
