.:Aveda's Story:. .:A Wolves of the Beyond Fanfic and Short Story:. _________________________________________________________ Do you remember the Beyond? That lost land of legend? How it was shrouded in ice and frost, and how that cataclysmic earthquake shattered the wolves' lives forever? Well, I was the last wolf to ever dwell in that broken world. The early afternoon downpour had slowed to a light misty drizzle. This was the first time I had seen rain. It was usually snow that stung my pelt before melting into silvery drops the size of a dewclaw in between my thick, stormy gray fur. My green eyes blazed in the bright whiteness of the Beyond. I never knew what other wolves looked like, for there were no more... I was a lone wolf. I heard of the Outermost, and, hoping that it was a lush green world of wolves, I decided to travel there. I was greatly mistaken. The Outermost had been attacked by this cold that seemed to spread like an illness. There were wolves, but they were so small, and their eyes were not a brilliant green like mine, but an amber that would look like fire if it had any light in it. They were feasting on caribou. My heart leaped. Meat. Real meat. I asked if I could sit and eat with them. "And who are you?" the largest of the group barked roughly, his amber eyes narrowing. "I have no name. Give me one, if you wish for me to join you." I replied, standing tall, my ears shoved forward and tail held out straight. "Adeva. In our new outclanner vocabulary, it means, "from the sky blizzards." I am Strunk, leader of the rout." his russet fur lay flat again, and the amber fire in his eyes seemed to die out. I settled down and shared the kill. It was refreshing after snow hares and voles, but something about these wolves didn't feel right... The rout was chanting something I didn't understand. I saw the snow hare and the Slough tern face each other, no emotions present on their frozen faces. Sitting at the back of the group, I watched as Strunk howled the beginning of the battle. The Slough tern and the snow hare began to attack each other, the tern pecking the snow hare with its beak, and the hare pummeling the tern with its gargantuan feet. Soon enough, the tern dropped dead. The rout wolves split the kill, then ripped open the hare. I watched in disgust. Did these wolves have no rules? "Strunk, I want to know what has happened to the caribou. When I joined the rout, you were feasting on caribou." "Why, that was the last caribou in the Outermost. We will survive, don't worry. We have our ways." something flashed in his eyes. Hunger? Savagery? This rout was hiding a secret that I didn't know the first thing about. Little did I know that I would find out soon... The she-wolf screeched in horror as she found out her pup was missing. A pitch black outclanner rushed to her side, trying to comfort her. I had a feeling I knew what happened. I ran into the undergrowth to find Strunk. Strunk was crouched in the undergrowth. I smelled something on him. Death. The scent of death. "Strunk. Where is the pup?" I snarled. He turned his head to face me. Then I saw it. His muzzle was stained with blood. "You killed the pup. You killed the pup to survive, didn't you? This pup could've strengthened the rout. But no. Instead you KILLED it to SUSTAIN YOU!!!" I was in a rage. Tears streamed down my eyes as I ran away from Strunk, who looked utterly confused. So this is what the secret of the rout was. Outclanners attacked each other. Just to live on each other. I shuddered at the thought. I didn't belong there. But Strunk now wanted revenge. He wanted to kill me so that he doesn't need to suffer the thought of his strongest rout wolf abandoning him. I stared out at the vast ocean. The Ice Bridge was gone. What led the last living wolves out of the Beyond was gone. I shook my head sadly. I needed to leave this shattered continent, but how? I saw something, like an icicle in the ocean. A sea creature's head poked out of the azure depths. A narwhale. "Take me to where Faolan went." the narwhale seemed to understand completely. He motioned for me to climb onto his back, and he swam out, out and way from the Beyond. The Distant Blue was drawing near. I was about to explode with excitement. Here I would find wolves, wolves like me! Wolves who understood me, wolves with rules. As the narwhale swam slowly and carefully towards shore, I thought about how I could assist these civilized wolves. The narwhale docked at the shore, and I clambered off his back onto the soft sand. I thanked the fascinating creature, then walked off to the lush green patches I could see on the continent. I joined the MacFee clan. I was now a respected outflanker of the byrrgis, and I had helped in many successful hunts. One day, I
offered to go out in search of a meat trail so another byrrgis could be sent out. Another wolf joined me. Kixo, renown turning guard of the MacFee clan. We did find a meat trail. We followed it until it grew strongest near the undergrowth. But something was wrong. It was quiet. Too quiet. The stench of the outclanners grew stronger, and as we approached the undergrowth, the outclanners ambushed us. I was fighting the outclanners when one jumped on me. I collapsed under his weight. Kixo ripped it off of me, giving me the time to escape. Another group of outclanners tackled me. Kixo rescued me again. But when the outclanners called for reinforcements, I felt weak. I could never win this battle. The outclanners raced towards me. My vision slowed. Dirt flew in all directions. The outclanners leaped on me, and I felt a searing pain in my neck. I had fallen. I felt weak. I didn't feel like I could go on much longer. Then, when I was starting to feel stronger, another outclanner appeared. And then I remembered nothing. I flew up, up towards the star ladder. Thankfully, Skaarsgard was there to guide me. I wasn't going to the Dim World after all! I swore that the wolf who killed me was Strunk. Perhaps he finally has his revenge after all. Now, pass this story down to the pups. Let them learn from my life. Let them flourish far away from the outclanners. I am Aveda. I have switched my name around, to forget the outclanners. The name Adeva was wrong. I am a true wolf of the Beyond, and I always will be. _________________________________________________________ Kixo belongs to SandWing. All of Kixo's actions are based on RP chains.
