Hurricane Irma was a Catastrophic storm that occurred in September 2017. It started off near the coast of Africa and rapidly intensified to a Category 3, before fluctuating in intensity. After that, Irma intensified again and became a Category 5 with winds of 180 mph, striking the Lesser Antilles, the strongest storm to do so since at least 1780. Irma impacted Puerto Rico and Hispaniola although the strongest winds stayed offshore. After that, Irma hit the Bahamas and Cuba as a Category 5. Irma then made its final two landfalls in Florida, striking the keys as a Category 4 and the mainland as a Category 3. Irma is the costliest storm in Florida history, although it would be 3rd if adjusted for inflation. Irma also is the 4th costliest Atlantic Hurricane ever recorded. Some areas that were impacted by Irma were also impacted by Hurricane Maria two weeks later - Similar Storms: Hurricane Maria (2017): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/464821882/ Hurricane Dennis (2005): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/465972506/ - Tags: #Hurricane #HurricaneAnimation #HurricaneIrma #Irma #Weather #TropicalCyclone #Meteorology #Category5 #Category5Hurricane #2017ATL #Florida
