Hurricane Irene was a costly Category 3 storm that impacted the Caribbean, Bahamas, and US east coast. Irene started off near the Lesser Antilles. The storm intensified to a hurricane near Puerto Rico and moved north, hitting the Bahamas. where it peaked as a Category 3. Irene then weakened and hit North Carolina as a Category 1. Due to Irene's fast movement and unusually large wind field, Irene brought strong winds and flooding across the Northeast and even Canada due to its slow weakening. Irene impacted NYC, although they dodged a bullet due to the fact that they avoided the worst flooding - Similar Storms: Hurricane Isaias (2020): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/451243228/ Hurricane Dorian (2019): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/453341274/ Hurricane Sandy (2012): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/463674806/ Hurricane Florence (2018): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/468201271/ Hurricane Matthew (2016): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/468201271/ - Tags: #Hurricane #HurricaneAnimation #HurricaneIrene #Irene #Weather #TropicalCyclone #Meteorology
