First, download and print the 2-page black-and-white PDF Graphic Art Lesson at the end of the Art and Music Section of 'SCRATCH for YOUR KIDS). Although this lesson is about Scratch, it is not about coding. Some children may even enjoy graphic design more so than coding.
A word of advice. The Scratch graphics tools are basic and maybe too limited for some. There is a much better free open source vector graphics software called 'Inkscape'. On the other hand, it may be too difficult, but it has many more features and you can use it to create Scratch sprites. For anyone interested, there are many excellent free online videos to help you become good in 'Inkscape'.
