Estimates by me may differ from official reports Hurricane Stan was a relatively weak but very deadly hurricane. The storm started off near the Yucatán and hit the area as a weak tropical storm. The storm then moved south, into the Gulf of Mexico. Stan rapidly intensified into a hurricane and hit the south part of Mexico. Stan then dissipated over Mexico. Due to Stan's large size, heavy rainfall spread into central America and as far as Honduras. Guatemala was hardest hit, with major flooding that killed over 1500 people.
