Estimates by me may differ from official reports Hurricane Rita was the 3rd of 4 hurricanes in 2005 to maker a major hurricane landfall in the US. It started off near the Bahamas and moved just south of Florida. Rita then rapidly intensified into a strong category 5 before slowly weakening.
