Sorry for the reshare, the other one was not working correctly Estimates by me may differ from official reports Hurricane Emily is the only known category 5 Atlantic hurricane to occur in the month of July. It started near the Lesser Antilles, causing Minor damage to areas impacted by Hurricane Ivan less than an year ago. The storm then rapidly intensified in the Caribbean, briefly becoming a Category 5 storm before weakening. The storm hit the Yucatán as a Category 4 storm, before rapidly weakening. The storm remerged into the gulf of Mexico as a minimal hurricane, but rapidly intensified before hitting northern Mexico as a strong category 3 storm. Although the storm struck the Yucatán as a powerful category 4, Emily's small size and fast movement caused damage to be relatively minimal, though severe where the worst did hit. Impacts in northern Mexico were severe though, causing nearly a billion dollars in damage. Due to the relatively low damage and death toll compared to other storms that season, Emily is one of only four Category 5 storms in the Atlantic not to have its name retired. - Tags: #Hurricane #HurricaneAnimation #HurricaneEmily #Emily #Weather #TropicalCyclone #Meteorology #2005Hurricanes #Category5
