Estimates by me may differ from official reports Hurricane Dennis was the first of many major hurricanes in 2005. The storm formed in early July and rapidly intensified into a category 4 near Jamaica. the storm made a brief landfall on cube before moving south. The storm made a second landfall on Cuba and weakened considerably as it moved over the Island. However, the storm again began to rapidly intensify over the Gulf of Mexico and reached its second peak. The storm again weakened just before making landfall on the Florida panhandle as a category 3 storm, the first of 4 major hurricane landfalls in the US that year.
