Instructions

"But I need you to stay!" "It's my time to go love." "Why do you have to leave?" The cream-tabby vanished. Her soft voice lingered in her kit's ears. Her kit helplessly reached out a paw, but she was gone. Tears trickled down the young tabby's face. A warrior, the kit's father, had been in the background now stepped forward and wrapped his son with his tail. The heartbroken kit cried into his fur. --- Gorsekit opened his eyes, his dream still fresh in his mind. His heart throbbed thinking about his mother. She had joined StarClan's ranks only two moons ago and the blow to his heart still ached. He wiped his eyes, which were brimming with tears. He couldn't cry. He must not cry. Kits about to be apprentices didn't cry. He patted the cold place in the nest where his mother used to sleep, half expecting her to be there. She would purr and tell him to go back to sleep. He missed her so much. Gorsekit got up and exited the nursery, looking for the one cat who he knew was kin. He found the black tom, standing by the prey pile, chatting with another warrior. Quivering slightly, he made his way towards his father. His father had taken him under his wing after his mother had passed. No queen had wanted to foster the 4 moons old kit. Gorsekit approached his father tentatively, wanting him to play mossball. His father waved him off with a "Go play with the other kits." Gorsekit looked down and trudged back towards the nursery, feeling dejected. Brookkit jumped at him from the nursery entrance. Completely caught off guard, Gorsekit tumbled to the ground under Brookkit. Brookkit let out a laugh. "Got you Gorsekit!" she crowed happily, Gorsekit pinned under her. Gorsekit heard his father laugh in the background and he bristled angrily. "Get off me you stupid furball!" he snarled, writhing to get away from Brookkit's grasp. Brookkit stepped off him with a startled expression and Gorsekit quickly got to his paws. Freed, Gorsekit lashed into the younger kit. "You are a mouse brain. Don't ever do that again!" he hissed, making sure to spit at her. He stole a glance towards his father, who nodded his head approvingly. Gorsekit raised his tail into the air and haughtily walked back to his nest, glad his father had noticed him. Brookkit stared after him. Brookkit's mother raced out of the nursery, hearing Gorsekit's rude remarks. She protectively curled her tail around her kit. Gorsekit frowned and laid down in his nest, seeing how Brookkit's mother had rushed to her aid. Brookkit was herded into her nest she shared with Acornkit and Molekit. As their mother settled in with them Acornkit began to clamber onto her mother's back. Gorsekit turned his head away and curled himself into a ball. Maybe if he fell asleep he could see his mother.
