helloo here is my entry for @geijutsu' s contest! i love this idea sm :) for my entry i chose the song 'your best american girl' by mitski, because it really resonates with me, especially the theme of internalised racism or feeling inadequacy because of your race (a prevalent theme in a lot of her music) so my artwork inspired by the song is of mitski, but split in half, the left side is the more 'white washed' version, with lighter, curled hair, skin and western makeup (e.g the eyeliner to make the eyes bigger) and its supposed to look both like she is in half and also somewhat like a mask. the right side is the more natural version with darker hair, straight hair and no makeup. this is to show how in a western society there is an expected version of you and trying to achieve eurocentric beauty ideals when you never really can because you aren't ‘eurocentric’ . anyway hope u like it :) music - your best american girl - mitski art - me on firealpaca (around 3hrs) p.s my favourite line is ‘your mother wouldn’t approve of how my mother raised me, but i do, i think i do’
