Description

My attempt at making a T26E3. This was made from the blueprints of the tank. I tried to make it as accurate and detailed as possible Description of the T26 Pershing The T26 Pershing was made to counter German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther. The German tanks outgunned the US army's main tank, the M4 Sherman. To counter this, some variants of the Sherman were upgunned with the 17 pounder, or the M1 76.2mm gun, resulting in the Sherman VC (Firefly) and the M4 76mm. These tanks proved themselves in combat, but still had flaws, such as poor armor, and cramped conditions inside the tanks, and were mostly stopgap designs. To solve this, the US Army developed a tank, dedicated to face the German Tigers and Panthers. They designed the T26 Pershing, a tank with sufficient armor, and a powerful 90mm M3 gun (Fun fact, the M3 was the first gun to be fitted with a bore evacuator). The tank I modelled in this game was the T26E3 variant of the Pershing. One T26E3, the Eagle 7, participated in one of the most famous tank duels in WW2, facing off against a Panther tank. You can read more about this engagement in Adam Makos's book "Spearhead". The T26 proved itself more than a match against the German tanks, and was a beast in combat, but it wasn't without its own flaws. The T26 was underpowered, having the same Ford GAF; 8-cylinder, gasoline engine as the Sherman, and being 13 tonnes heavier. Nevertheless, the the T26 was a excellent tank, but unfortunately, it is often forgotten in history.
