It's just dark all around, with a few darker shapes with glowing eyes here and there. 'Where am I?' a fox/mantis-like creature thinks. She looks down at her front paws; they're shadowy and a bit translucent, like the other Shades'. 'H-how- What-' She can't comprehend what's happening; to her species, Shades were always legends. They were to be avoided. But now she was one. 'Why did this happen to me?' The Shade shakes her head, then feels behind her for something. 'Perfect.' It's a nail with some well-placed strings on it; before she had become a Shade, this bean had been a bit of a guitarist. She unsheathes the nail and plucks a few strings experimentally. Glad she's still able to use it, the Shade starts strumming a tune. It may be vaguely familiar, but you can't remember from where. The music seems to swell and fill the Abyss. There are only two things that matter now. Survival and music.
