| Prologue | The sound of twigs snapping echoed through the woods as crimson fur flashed through the undergrowth. Three shadows emerged from the woods at the bank of a lake, one bright crimson red, the other a dark black, merely a silhouette against the night, and the other was pale snow white. They skidded to a stop and stared into a lake, the pale white fox looked around suspiciously. The black one lowered her head to the lake brushing her nose against the cool surface of the water. She twitched her ear as she started to lap at the crystal clear water. The crimson fox started into the water as if in some sort of trance. He settled down next to the black vixen licking her ear. She flicked her tail toward him, lifting her head to meet his eyes. The crimson fox blinked once meaningfully, then settled back down to stare at the water. The white fox sniffed haughtily once, then hesitantly settled next to them. The lake was still, shining with the stars above. They all stretched their noses forward and touched them to the still lake, sending sparkling ripples across it. The white fox closed his eyes, suddenly peaceful. The others slowly followed to do the same; they all woke up in a brightly lit clearing. In front of them was a forest with thin trees, the forest behind was dark and foreboding. The white fox jumped to his paws barking at the crimson fox. The black one sat there paws over her ears trying to block out all the sound the males were making. Suddenly a fluffy grey and white vixen approached them, stars shimmering like dew in her fur. The black vixen looked up, eyes widening, her jaw dropping slowly. The males stopped, gazing at the grey and white vixen, their fur rippling anxiously. Fear-scent drifted from the white fox, carrying on in the light breeze. The grey and white vixen flicked her tail to them signaling that they were safe. They both relaxed fur flattening to the sides, and the grey and white vixen stepped forward and touched her nose to the black vixen's head, the black vixen shuddered as the grey and white vixen's nose touched her forehead. The grey and white vixen then straightened up, looked at the three foxes meaningfully, and vanished.
