Description

hello my friends and welcome to my ~art process~! there are two options for viewing this project: you can either use the arrow keys (or click the background) to move one slide at a time, or you can hit space to see a speedpaint! you can also hit space at any point in your perusal and it will put it in speedpaint mode :) i tried to make the dimensions of the canvas the perfect size for scratch so that it wouldn't be low quality and would fit the workspace perfectly, but unfortunately it seems i miscalculated. i made the final slide bigger so that you can see it clearer but i didn't want to do all 50 slides- not just because it would be a lot of work, but i was also worried that then the slides would not align like they do now. so unfortunately it is smaller than i would like :( but if you put it in fullscreen, you can get a higher quality image! and of course the final image is nice and big! i hope you like it! i haven't been super active with projects lately - and to be honest i haven't been drawing much either - but i had a bit of free time and i wanted to make something fun specifically for scratch :) speaking of which, are there any tutorials you would be interested in seeing from me? i was thinking of making a tutorial of some kind too! if you choose to view it slide by slide, feel free to accompany it with the slide-by-slide descriptions below! press s to show what slide you are on and press h to hide it :) 1 - i start out all of my headshot sketches with a simple sketchy circle! 2 - next, i outline the edges of the face. this doesn't need to be perfect as i'll be fiddling a lot later! 3 - erased a bit of the circle and vaguely outlined the placement of the facial features. 4 - added some more detail and shape to the face! 5 - some more detail - i fiddled with the face shape, added the details inside the eye, and of course eyebrows. 6 - time for some hair and vague shoulders! 7 - aand we are on to the real part of the process: color! i just laid out a base skin tone over the skin parts of the sketch. 8 - i moved the sketch layer on top and began preliminary shading, starting with just one darker color that's more red than the base. 9 - i mixed it in with a midtone, a color between the base and the shading. 10 - some much darker color added! 11 - the colors were looking a little flat, so i added a few more extreme colors just to set some more vibrant undertones. 12 - some even darker color! 13 - i finished up this preliminary shading by putting the sketch layer out of sight and blurring all the colors together. now beings the true rendering! 14-15 - behold: a nose! 16-24 - my process for eyes - note that i have the dark outline, whites, and iris on three separate layers so that i can shade the iris without worrying about getting color on the other sections. i add highlights as the finishing touch! 25-27 - lips! 28-31 - some more shading & rendering, featuring a moment as i stepped back and realized it was looking very uncanny haha 32 - finally eyebrows! 33 - and the face is left behind for now to focus on the hair! i tried out the original hairstyle from the sketch, but... 34 - i decided to go for this instead! this is just a blob of base color :) 35 - added some flyaways! 36 - it's hard to see because of how dark the color is already, but i added some darker lines + shading. 37-38 - i added some lighter, caramel colored strokes. 39 - i went over those with a dark/base tone brush, making strokes through them and adding some further dimension in the darker areas. 40 - by adding some fine lines of the lighter color, the hair is complete! 41 - i adjusted the face colors to have a redder hue - it was looking too yellowy with the hair color. 42-43 - i added some darker shading to the face to adjust now that the hair was there and needed to give some shadow. i just put it on a separate layer (42) and lowered the opacity (43). 44-45 - some final facial fiddlings! 46 - added some freckles with a spotty tool :) 47 - i began on the background with just a base tool and then used a different spotty tool to shade in the edges with a darker lavender to match the eyes. 48 - i added a bunch of random "eyes of lavender" text in the background to provide more texture in white and then lowered the opacity. 49 - added some white spotties around the headshot 50 - finally, i signed it! it is complete :D thanks for viewing! let me know what you think in the comments! if there was anything i was unclear about, please let me know as well - i would be happy to answer any questions <3 music : lost in the rhythm by jamie berry falling for you by peachy! ◄ happy scratching! ►
