Instructions

This is part of a book I have started I'm not far in but this is the first page, I would like constructive criticism and your opinion on my work. You may ask questions about it and I will try to answer but I will not spoil important bits.

Description

The smell of the night air was different from the chemical smell she was used to, but it was much better in a lot of ways. X shook the thought out of her head, she had to stay focused. It was important, for if she let her guard down for one moment it could end her right back where she started. And, besides, if she ever did go back she would most likely be put to an end by those who hurt her, X thought as she looked at her wounds, but she could always do it out here. X heard a rustling behind her and quickly turned her face snarling. It was just a bird, but her paranoia allowed her to think about it as if it was something else and she didn't like that, no not one bit. She knew she shouldn't have but it was almost impulse, she could see the boys below her as X perched on the fence that blocked there only escape route, it was a tall fence and the alleyway the boys were trapped in had lots of graffiti on the walls as well as multiple rubbish bags, X was perfectly positioned so the shadows conselled her almost completely and so that she could have a clear view of the ally, X was now listening to the boys panicked tone. “Why did you say we could do this, now we're gonna get caught!'' Yelped the boy furthest from her as he tried to climb to the fence only to be greeted by her dragon form bleeding from many wounds and snarling down on him. “Well, you finally noticed, took you long enough” X grumbled thinking about how if she was as incompetent as them, she would not have been able to escape. It took her a second to cover up her pain but after that, she whirled around and built up her flames until they were at maximum heat then aimed it at a corner of the fence, she had learnt to do this early on once her captors realised that at a certain point her flames hit maximum heat and would melt thing quicker. X breathed a large burst of fire witch melted an area of the fence big enough for people to fit through, but not big enough to draw attention. The boy’s then wearily moved through it, the blonde-haired boy was last and stopped for a second before passing through to stare at her as she moved, ready to fly up onto one of the roofs nearby, but he soon turned around and continued on his way and X did the same. Now that she wasn't distracted X could focus on finding a place to stay the night because even though she could be nocturnal, she still had to sleep, X flew threw the skies hoping she could find a place that was nicer than the white padded room that was constantly stained with blood she was used to. Based on her surroundings, everything was better than that here, no constant fear, no being injected with sedatives and other chemicals to see what does what but best of all, she was free to shift whenever and wherever she wanted. Yes, it was much better.
