The GAZ 24 Volga was a Soviet executive sedan produced between 1977 and 1985, to replace the iconic (though outdated) GAZ 21. Although a dream car for many of the soviet proletariat, the car was extremely expensive, keeping it well outside the economic constraints of the people. This meant that the lion's share of the cars went to the soviet nomenklatura, and the rest were used as taxis, police cars and ambulances. The car was powered by a 2.4l inline-4, and featured a 4 speed manual gearbox. V8, rotary and 4WD variants were produced in limited numbers, and it was said that they were owned by the KGB, using the large rear bench to drag in "suspicious citizens" and could reach over 110mph, which was by soviet standards, a performance car. Now, these cars are considered to be highly collectable
