*****THIS OLD SCRATCH VERSION 2 PROJECT NO LONGER WORKS AND IS BEING REMADE***** https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/360759874/ old nfo.. To Pose: Click the green flag to start the project. Click on a body part and drag the mouse left or right to spin it. Spin the chest body part to rotate the entire figure. To Animate: 1. Set the first pose, then press the space bar to set it as the first keyframe. 2. Set the second pose then press the space bar to set it as the second keyframe. 3. Press the "c" button to generate the animation. The "b" button deletes all keyframes. Note: The slider sets how many in-between frames are used to create the animation. More frames means a smoother, slower animation. Currently, you can only animate across two keyframes but in the future, you will have access to more frames as well as additional animation features. I will also make a Youtube video demonstrating the usage of this app to create a custom sprite animation from start to finish. A base is a posed blank sprite that is used as a guide while you draw the desired sprite texture over the top of it. Use this project to create sprite animations by… 1. creating the first pose of a desired animation sequence, like a walk cycle 2. take a screenshot and save it 3. repeat this process for all the needed frames of your animation 4. insert the first screenshot into Scratch 5. convert the image into a vector image 6. draw vector circles over the image, adding, deleting, and editing points to reshape them to match the various parts of your loaded image, using the preloaded image as a placement guide 7. color your vectors using fills and delete the reference screenshot images from behind your new vector costumes 8. repeat this process for all your saved screenshots Now, when you cycle through costumes, your sprite will move just like the animation you created with this project. I posted this as soon as I got the body parts working together. I am going to add a lot of features to this. My plan is to make it animate your keyframes overtime, like a 2d version of Poser or Daz3d.
All by me. Update 01 April 2015 - I have animation across multiple keyframes working in an unshared version of this project. Once I add controls and increase animation functionality, I'll update thus to the final version and add the video tutorial on Youtube. UPDATE 16 MAR 2015 - I got an invite from GameDev.net to write an article on this project, so I guess I better get back to work on it. But how cool is that?!?! :D http://www.gamedev.net/page/index.html Yay!!! I just figured out how to completely animate the sprite across multiple keyframes. I am currently adding that feature to an unshared copy of this project. Very soon, you will be able to create completely animated sprite sequences such as walking, jumping, swinging a sword, or whatever. You will be able to share your animations in a forum post that I will create. Best of all, I will show you how to turn your animations into actual game sprites. And now you know the reason why I made this project, because I needed an easier way to design my own custom, animated game characters for Scratch projects. :D
