Her father was out of the picture for a few years, away on military leave, so she only spoke to him briefly every few months. Her mother worked at a bakery by the shore that sold all sorts of delicious treats, and would treat her daughter to them after school. By the time she turned 13 they had moved to Kamakura and her father returned. The family grew close again, sharing stories in the sand and taking goofy photos together. The happy times were interrupted however. About a year later, Coraline’s mother fell ill, and has been hospitalized since. There isn’t much hope, so she and her father make the most of the time she has left, visiting her everyday from the end of school and work to closing hour.
