Short narrative. Pretty random. I did this for an assignment but I decided to share it here too cuz I liked it.

Description

Scroll Down. It was midnight, and a slimmer of moon showed in the sky. The lone rider and his horse trudged on through the downpour of rain, his black cloak already soaked through. He decided to stop for the night, and set up camp. He was tethering his horse to a nearby tree when there was a loud CRACK.  He whipped out his sword, brandishing it before him. There was no more sound...  The outrider finished tethering his horse, and went to gather firewood. He had a feeling of foreboding in his gut. He didn't trust these woods. He felt as if something was... watching him. He heard the powerful howl of a wolf, close by. He took in his surroundings. Nothing was there. Doubtful, he gathered his firewood, went back to camp, and slept through the night. The next morning, he and his storm-gray stallion were back on the path. Since it was now dry, he encouraged the horse to break into an exhilarating run. The wind streamed past him, blowing off the hood of his cloak, revealing close-cropped red-brown hair and sun-kissed skin. His horse continued to ride on, both rider and steed enjoying the peaceful ride until they heard pounding hooves behind him. Ten soldiers each riding an armored warhorse were chasing him. They'd found him. The red-haired rider yanked his hood back up, and urged his faithful mount into an even faster speed. Hooves pounded on the ground for hours, the horses wearing themselves down to their last slivers of energy before the rider finally lost the soldiers in the dark of the newly fallen night. The rider and his stallion kept running, even though they were both dead-beat with tiredness. They finally came to their destination: the Kingdom. Where the rider had been sent to assassinate the king. He waited until the dead of night. The guards were sleeping on duty, so he easily slipped past them. On his way to the king's chambers, he saw a portrait. It was the king, along with a raven-haired girl and a gray-haired woman. They looked so happy in the portrait, he paused. That moment's hesitation changed his whole path. He found his way to the king's chambers, and found the eldered man laying in bed, fast asleep. He watched for a minute or two, then exited the chamber. There would be no bloodshed tonight, for what he had seen warmed his cold heart enough for him to let the king and his family live, and give up the immense reward. After all, happiness wasn't bought with money, and he'd decided that very moment that happiness is what he wanted, too. The man mounted his horse, and set off, looking for a new adventure.
