Use the arrow keys to move, X to talk to people/interact with objects. Press space to jump. In battle, select which attack you'd like to use. Press the up arrow/space right before landing on the enemy to deal more damage. Press space or down arrow to block and take less damage.
This is an unfinished Paper Mario game I was working on before I lost motivation for Scratch. Although short, lots of time and effort actually went into making this. And yes, the battle engine used here is an unfinished version of the battle engine used in my "Paper Mario Battle Creator 2" project.
