Instructions

They finally did it. Humans made contact. They found the Sucus Viventem, an alien race of liquid shapeshifters. The aliens were fascinated by Earth and its inhabitants, so they paid a visit. Now, humans are easily frightened.Their emotions are fragile. The Sucus Viventem have different kinds of emotions and senses. The species is known for adapting their forms to mimic those of the creatures on the planet they are visiting, while keeping at least some of their original features. Being one-eyed octopus-like things, this proved for some interesting forms. "Monster" sightings began popping up. The Sucus Viventem are only hostile if need be, but they have features resembling that of Earthen predators. Civilians would try to fend off the aliens, attacking them with guns and such. The aliens would attack back, only to protect themselves, and, in a certain case, their eggs. Temero was only an egg when he was stolen away and locked in a lab. He was analyzed and trained and tested, with only small memories of his past. He learned more and more about his species through his ability to feel brainwaves. He longed to return to his family. He wanted to see his home. The one thing that made him feel better was the stray cat that snuck into the lab at night. Temero loved her, a sweet soul with a blue-gray coat and two happy blue eyes. She would scratch against his enclosure with her tiny claws, as if she wanted to join him. He named her Purrulus. They were both happy and innocent of the chaos outside. The Sucus Viventem who had landed on Earth had been all but wiped out when reinforcements arrived. A violent species like humanity could not be left to kill all life in the galaxy. While war raged, the scientist tested Temero for weaknesses. Temero felt like he was going crazy. Test after test after test until... He lost it. Enraged, Temero assumed the form of a giant cat. He broke his cage and rampaged through the halls. No one stopped him. No one was there to stop him. The war was over. The humans lost. There was barely a trace of life outside the lab. What once had been an urban city was now flat and soulless desert. As Temero looked around with a feeling kind of like sadness, a thought struck him. Purrulus. She must be dead. Temero looked up at the sky. The Earth had airborne beings he could mimic. In the blink of an eye, Temero had huge, billowing wings. He searched the miles of muted grays and browns, and eventually came back in a circle. Hopeless, Temero walked back into the lab, the only place he'd ever known. What he should find, but Purrulus, on the floor, dead from the nuclear weapons' influence. I must explain very quickly that The Sucus Viventem are liquid. Non-Newtonian liquids, to be exact. They can disappear into puddles of their own matter, and then pop back up in a different shape. When Temero escaped, he had left some of his matter behind. Before the final, fatal bomb, Purrulus, a curious kitten, had dipped her paw into the green and black gooeyness, and licked it up. Another law of the alien species is that if a creature consumes some of the alien matter, the creature can be turned into a Surus Viventum as well, if the alien wishes them to. Temero did not know this, but as he stood there gazing at Purrulus' lifeless form, wishing for her to come back, his only comfort, he activated this ability. Purrulus instantly melted into a blue-gray puddle. Temero backed away, confused and startled. Then, as quickly as she disappeared, Purrulus rose from the dead. She was back. Sort of. As you can guess, aliens are much more intelligent than cats. Purrulus had all her memories, but a newfound way of interpreting them. She had to live with the guilt of the wickedness of the race who created her. The humans' torture of her best friend. Temero and Purrulus are still there, burdened with the weight of a war.
