I have a golden retriever who is always eating my paper. So, yes, it is believable. As a kid, I was homeschooled, but I went to a co-op every week. And yes, there are bullies. My teacher pretended that he didn't believe me. He insisted that I simply didn't do my homework. I found out later that he was actually trying to impress the principal by punishing me in an unusual way. My conclusion: School is a thing of the past. It was pretty useful in the 1800s but now bullies (and some principals) have turned it bad. If you're bully–free, I'm very happy for you.
