Chapter 1: Heatherkit sprung onto a patch of grass. "I caught you! I caught you!" she yowled. A fuzzy white kit rose out of the grass and hissed. "So? You know it's hard for me to hide because of my stupid PELT!" Heatherkit rolled her eyes. "Blah, blah. So what you have a white pelt? You look pretty with it." A tortoiseshell kit leaped out from behind an ancient oak tree. "RAAAAAAAAAAWRRRR!!!!!!!" she screeched, landing on both cats with claws unsheathed. "Maplekit!" the white kit growled. "That hurts! Get off!" Maplekit jumped off glumly. "You have to ruin EVERYTHING, Snowkit." she muttered, dragging her paws back to the nursery. "I DON'T ruin everything!" Snowkit protested to Heatherkit, who stood frozen, staring at the medicine cat's den. "I think something bad is happening, come on!" she hurled herself toward the medicine cat's den. She slowed, then crept inside. Ivystorm was sprawled on her nest, groaning. Minnowpaw, her apprentice smelled of fear, and her fur was standing on end. "Ivystorm... what was the herb that treated greencough again?" she mewed worriedly. Ivystorm only gave a small whimper. Minnowpaw's ears twitched and she whipped around to face Heatherkit nose-to-nose. "This is no place for you at the moment," she meowed, though not unkindly. Heatherkit nodded and left, but she kept watching in some bracken. Ivystorm looked up at Minnowpaw. "You know, you will make a good medicine cat. At least, as long as you don't mix up juniper berries with deathberries!" she rasped. Minnowpaw shook her head. "You are going to stay with ThunderClan for many moons to come." but Ivystorm already lowered her head. Her breathing grew shallower. Ivystorm..." Minnowpaw whispered. But the medicine cat didn't answer.
