Instructions

Four Wild Horses - Violet, Indigo, Cyan and Purple, are waiting to Play. Press Green Flag to start (in full screen mode with volume up). Repeatedly press V, I, C and P in any order you like. Those crazy horses will start to run wild - trotting, cantering and galloping all around, painting the screen! If you want to stop a horse from painting, click on it, make it run around, then click it again to start painting. Keep painting! When the music stops, press Space and the horses will gallop away leaving the painting behind. You can right-click and save the image. Once the horses have gone you might wonder if they were so crazy after all, or whether they just needed to 'go do their Art' !!!

Description

Getting Unstuck 2020 Day 10 Prompt: create a project that uses a Scratch block you want to learn more about Music: Crazy Horses by The Osmonds Reflection: I had only a vague idea of using Pen blocks for this project at the start, but luckily a call with some amazing friends for inspiration! They helped me let go of my frustrations from the day, hear interesting tales and really laugh! This project was inspired by them and their tales of earlier WeScratch sessions and reflections, hacking and painting, Art as therapy, Scratch features just discovered, wildly flapping birds and an encyclopedia for horses. After the call, just started playing around with Pen blocks and a horse sprite. Moving it all around the screen. Trying out different ideas for how it could move and paint onto the screen, tweaking, scrapping bits of code and re-making, until it started to make some kind of sense to me. Knew the music I wanted to use! Wanted the movement to be randomised, to feel out of control like Wild Horses. Introduced small amount of 'control' by allowing you to choose which horse moves with keyboard keys, and click on the horses to switch the painting on and off, so users feels they can contribute a little to the painting. Knew they would appear to be crazy while they played and 'did their Art'. But once you press Space when the music stops, and they gallop away, you are left with something 'messy and beautiful' you can wonder at. Maybe they weren't so crazy after all ? “If I paint a wild horse, you might not see the horse... but surely you will see the wildness!” - Pablo Picasso
