Description

Getting Unstuck 2020 Day 9 Prompt: create a project that does something interesting with a list Fish image from pngwing.com Reflection: Had a couple of other ideas for this project to start with. I had been thinking a lot about letting things go that you no longer need, so initially I thought about using a list to hold a poem line by line and allowing each line to float away on screen like dandelion seeds (somehow!?!). Wanted something little quicker to make, so thought about creating a secret code generator/decoder, using one list of letters of the alphabet, then another list where alphabet written into list offset by a random number of letters. But this just did not seem right for me today, as really wanted to play with visuals. Got a bit stuck for another idea, so looked at some friend's projects for inspiration. I had seen @MissMissShelly 's Day 8 project https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/411629198 which uses video sensing to help you flap a bird's wings. Had also heard about @AngelaSofiaRobotics awesome collage session from Carmelo (...and his Cowllage), and then remembered Austin Kleon always says "if you get stuck, make a collage" https://austinkleon.com/2007/04/09/collage-where-to-turn-when-you-get-stuck/ I remembered a collage I had made a few months back using chibitronics.com LED circuit stickers, where I'd used a red cellophane Fortune Teller Fish, and wondered if I could photograph it and make it move on screen using video sensing like Shelly's flappable project. This seemed a good challenge, as I did not really know how I could make it work, but was really curious about it. I could use the list to hold the 'Fortunes' the fish tells you from the amount of movement it makes. Have used the real 'Fortune' names the fish novelty uses, just changed one to discombobulated! I decided to create my own red fish in Paint 3D based on a .png image found online, uploaded to Scratch and animated his eye and mouth. The red part increases the whirl effect the more you move to make it curl. Had to play with him to find the right numbers to use for time limit and amounts of movement. Added a timer and text to speech to let the fish speak forth his wisdom! Not sure he will be very accurate with his predictions, but I had fun making him :)
