Take a moment to feel at one with the Squirrel ! Then Press Green Flag to get into start position. Use Left and Right Arrow keys to steer your car. You might catch the walnuts falling from the trees along your journey and may get awarded prizes too, but don't let that concern you, just enjoy the journey...
Getting Unstuck 2020 Day 8 Prompt: Create a project that uses a variable to decide when something happens Walnut image from pngwave.com Music: Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf Had a ball creating this project! Did not start it until already very late so needed to do something fairly quick. First took a look in the studio for some inspiration, and saw @Mattioli2 's awesome Doctor Squirrel project https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/411773137/ Fell in love with Doctor Squirrel (not a real doctor!) It reminded me of having lots of fun creating a whole load of squirrel-based projects in WeScratch workshops a couple of months ago. At that time I'd often be creating quick fun projects very late at night too, so it felt right for today and just reminded me of a fun time. Started by thinking I should make a simple game with a variable as the points scored. So just started with the squirrel sprite (car-less) whizzing back and forth, and animated his mouth to chatter when he caught a walnut. When I tried it out I really just liked making him just whizz all the way across the bottom of the screen, like he was gliding on wheels. So decided to draw him a car to ride in. Realised the prompt said the variable should 'decide when something happens', and also that the car and squirrel were misaligning when they reached each edge of the screen. So added a variable for car X position and set it when the car moves left or right. Then could check if the car reached a certain position at each side of the screen and disable the arrow keys. Also added a Ready variable to start the game and music once the car is in position ready to start the game. Had also seen my friend @Coach_Newton 's Day 7 cool project What if they returned? https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/411638287/ earlier, and been really inspired by the dream-like effect he created on the backdrop. So wanted to add that effect here for added -=speed. Actually copied the backdrop as a sprite costume, and added effect to that. I'd also been in a call with friends earlier (so this project is really dedicated to the 4 of them) talking about being on the kind of journey you love so much you just want to enjoy it to the max, without thinking about the end destination too much. So although the prize figure may increase as you play, I decided to make that of no real consequence here. Just enjoy the ride! <3
