Getting Unstuck 2020 Day 7: Create a project that uses the "ask" and "answer" blocks. Wow -- this was a labor of love! It took me a while to come up with an idea for today's Getting Unstuck (day 7) prompt: use the "ask" and "answer" blocks. Once I had the idea, I knew it would take a bit of work... But I decided to start with one section at a time and work slowly. As I brainstormed, I explored the Day 7 studio and took a look inside @karenb's code for her word games. I noticed that she used a block for "costume number." After some tinkering, I found I could also use the costume name. Although there are lots of Sprites and backdrops involved here, it actually didn't take too long to build. I built the code for one dot placed on a state and then duplicated it 49 times. All I had to change was the costume name, Sprite name, and x/y coordinates. Then I found when to broadcast messages to prompt backdrop changes. I used the same blank map for each region... I simply used the costume editor in Scratch to cut out the section and blow it up. It's such a great tool. I've learned so many new things that Scratch is capable of this week -- things that save time/iteration and allow for more creative expression in terms of costumes and backdrops. Looking at other Scratchers' code is SO powerful.
