I feel like it's such an underrated moment in the show, but it's really, really important! This is the first time we really see Eliza and Alexander as newlyweds, with Alex torn between work and home, and Eliza trying to support him. It sets really sets up their whole storyline, especially because Eliza is /such/ a significant figure in the narrative (haha see what I did there?) This song also shows the first time Eliza is kind of conflicted with Alex prioritizing other things over their marriage. I didn't show them actually holding hands because /right after/ Eliza begs him to stay, Washington calls Hamilton back to the war and he goes, leaving his wife /again/. This sets up themes that play out more dramatically later in the story... "Let me be a part of the narrative" turns into "I'm erasing myself from the narrative". Overall, this is just a really deep, touching, emotional song and it deserves more love! :D <3
