New Project: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/407215833/ Press the Green Flag - Fullscreen recommended- --Credits-- - All art by me - Music: Elektronomia - Sky High [NCS Release] Why?: With this piece, I want to communicate that 2020 should be remembered as a year of global distress, achievement, and revolution. The coronavirus pandemic will definitely be remembered for a long time by the generations who experienced it. I included a still life at the top left of my artwork that sums up the pandemic with only a few objects. It represents panic buying of cleaning essentials, everyday items, food, and toilet paper while signifying the importance of the now highly treasured hand sanitizer. On the top right, you can find my pen drawing of the world being taken over by coronavirus. I used three different line techniques on the globe alone to show a contrast between the different components. I combined the form of the earth with the tentacles of a virus ball to show that coronavirus spread to every part of the world. The tentacles are done using pointillism to make it appear like it does not fit in with the rest of the globe done with lines; it appears to be “corrupting” the Earth. The chain link attached to the Earth and wrapping around an arm displays how the virus is holding humanity back like a prisoner’s ball and chain. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and astronaut suit represent achievement because in 2020 SpaceX became the first private company to send astronauts into space. The portrait of George Floyd and “Black Lives Matter” graffiti signifies how racism is still prevalent globally in the 21st century and George Floyd’s death was a revolutionary call to action initiating mass anti-racism protests. I used graffiti letters for the words since many artists use graffiti to express social issues. I applied complementary colours blue and orange for George Floyd’s portrait so that it would stand out from the rest of the artwork and convey an important message. The two hands in the shape of a heart located in the center harmonize all the different elements in the artwork. They express racial equity, love, and cooperation which was essential in order for NASA and SpaceX to achieve a successful launch. It also communicates that we, as humans, need to remain unified to survive the Covid-19 pandemic. In conclusion, my artwork portrays the overarching theme of “Unity”. I was inspired to create this artwork by all the events going on around the world and what I learned from the media. With all these events I realized that in order to prosper we all need to remain united.
