Instructions

Post level codes and watch walkthrough videos here! https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/452999 Use the arrow keys (or drag around the screen if you're on mobile) to move and jump. If you're new here, I suggest starting with the level called "Torus" under the category "Open Spaces." Click the "?" button in the level editor for help there. ===== UPDATES ===== 10-31-2020 (Version 1.0): The game was released, and a bug subsequently fixed. Previously, loading a world into the level editor and then clicking "save" on the first level did not save the starting location correctly. Thanks to @Bluebatstar for helping me locate this! 11-6-2020 (Version 1.1): I moved the goal down slightly for one of the levels in the Compact Real Projective Plane. Before, you could easily skip one of the levels from accessing this goal early. Thanks to @DD-8861 for catching this! I also deleted most stray blocks in the editor that were not connected to anything.

Description

Most platformers take place on a closed rectangle where you cannot move past the edges. In this game, however, the space in which you move has different physics, which allows you to move past the edges in interesting ways! Ever wanted to play a platformer on a torus, a Klein bottle, or a real projective plane? Now you can! Each space has different physics. In levels labeled "Torus," you'll move precisely from one edge to the opposite edge. In levels labeled "Klein bottle," the left/right directions will naturally switch when you move between top and bottom. In levels labeled "Real Projective Plane," the up/down directions will switch when you move between left and right. Levels in the "Compact Spaces" category are more difficult than levels in the "Open Spaces" category. This game was inspired by a mathematical field known as "topology," which is the study of surfaces and how they can be deformed. This game essentially shows how a square with its edges identified a certain way is topologically equivalent to a torus (a donut)! With this game, I also wanted to program a level editor. This proved to be a very challenging task, but definitely one that I am proud to have completed. On that note, however, I hope I never make another level editor again. Life got pretty busy for me, so I am afraid that this game is not quite as complete as I would like. Regardless, it is in a finished and playable state, and I am happy to be releasing it as it is. I am excited to see what you think! I am confident that there are some hidden glitches in this project. If you are able to identify the problems and fix them, I will give you credit for doing so! I started working on this project on July 5, 2020. Top Loved on November 4, 2020! Top Remixed on November 8, 2020! Thank you all for 3000 loves. :) ===== CREDITS ===== INSPIRATION Topology (from Mathematics) Super Mario Maker (elements of the level editor) DESIGN @DD-8861 (some level design) @ToadfanSchool (some menu design ideas) SCRIPTS @griffpatch (platformer engine) @Paddle2See (Discrete Topology from "Turbulence") @-Zid- ("slide to x: __ y: __" script) MUSIC Extremely OK Games (music from "Celeste") BUG FIXES @Bluebatstar (Version 1.0 bug fix) @DD-8861 (Version 1.1 bug fix) Sound effects from WildTangent, Nintendo, Toby Fox, GamingSoundEffects from YouTube, @ToadfanSchool, and possibly other places.
