This takes place in an alternate universe in 2011, so things might be a little different? Bare with me, I’m terrible at writing. Also, it’s a S U P E R long backstory so- Kace and Andrew were assigned normal tasks for their occupation, whatever those tasks should be I don’t know. But being curious mid 20 year olds, instead of sticking to it, they started their own project. They tried to make something that would get rid of all pain while still allowing the person to move, think, and feel other things. Kace joked it would be like Deadpool. Vernon, Kace’s intern, just stood to the side with no idea what was happening. They told him they were working on what they were supposed to, but he shouldn’t try to butt in. I’m just going to add something real quick, Kace and Adrian (far right) were starting to date, even though Adrian was already in a relationship with Vernon. Andrew didn’t approve of this (duh) but he kept his mouth closed. This becomes somewhat relevant later. This went on for a year, and they kept failing. Of course. January 2012, Andrew thought he’d finally figured it out. He was staying late in the lab, and the tests weren’t reacting to the prods and pinches. He tried for himself, and to his surprise didn’t feel any pain after giving himself a cut. He called Kace over, and they duplicated what they thought was the successful serum. They tested it, but it didn’t work. Both of them were equally confused, and Kace started to suspect Andrew was hiding it from him. The two of them got into an argument. Kace claimed that he trusted him, and Andrew was being greedy and using him. Either that or he was salty about Kace’s relationship with Adrian. Andrew tried to convince him otherwise, but the argument turned into a physical fight. They knocked over supplies and other objects, which resulted in a small fire starting. The lab ended up exploding. Well that sounds like every other sci-fi doesn’t it? Andrew was able to get out fine thanks to the medicine, but Kace was pulled out with several burns and a damaged eye. He was taken to the hospital, and Adrian came with him. Vernon rushed over asking Andrew where she was. Andrew told him she’d gone with Kace, which confused him. He followed, but Adrian shut the ambulance doors on him, pretending not to notice he was there. Vernon muttered about how Adrian had been ignoring him lately and if it would be a mistake to propose to her. Usually, proposing to Adrian was a normal and enthusiastic topic of conversation around Vernon. 2 days later, Andrew went to go visit Kace in the hospital. Adrian was already inside the room, standing still. She looked shocked, happy, and torn. Kace had just proposed to her. She walked out wearing the ring, and Andrew watched in disgust as left. I’m tired so we’re gonna stop there.
