Hello! This is Chapter 5 of The Shadow Realm! I hope you enjoy! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iris: I watched my sister fall asleep that night, & I told myself, I would not lay in my bunk feeling sorry for myself. But of course, I went to sleep, crying quietly. *** At midnight, I heard some strange sounds. I sat up in my bunk, & looked at the one below me, where Ivy lay, asleep. So it was not Ivy... I quietly crept down the ladder, & walked down the steps of the loft, going to the first floor, where everyone else slept. Mom, Dad, Asher, & Aspen, were all sound asleep in their beds. I sighed to myself. I must be hearing things. I walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water. When I had just taken my first gulp, I heard an ear-splitting scream coming from our loft, where Ivy & I slept. I set down the glass, & rushed to our room. What I found, made no sense. Ivy was on the floor, no, IN the floor, with a large pool of shadow sucking her in. "Iris! Help me!" she cried when she spotted me. I yelped in horror, & tried to pull her up, but the pull was too strong. She fell into the shadow, & just like that, it was like she had never been there. Moments later, Aspen rushed into my room, her hair everywhere. "Iris! Help! It's Mom & Dad! Where's Ivy?" "She got sucked into a shadow hole!" I said, shaken. "That's what is happening to Mom & Dad! Asher is trying to help, but I don't think he's strong enough." Aspen explained as we rushed down the hall. We rushed into Mom & Dad's room, & what we found was our parents being sucked into another shadow lake, & Asher frantically trying to suck them out. Suddenly, the ground started shaking, & I swear I heard someone laughing, like, evil laughing. Not Asher or Aspen, so who was it? Aspen rushed over, & grabbed Mom, while Asher grabbed Dad. The pulled, but it kept sucking them in, & I felt powerless to stop it. I ran to the kitchen, to call the police but just as I was about to dial, four horrible screams ran out from Mom & Dad's room. I really had to stop going into the kitchen. I sprinted down the hall, because it was an emergency. Once I got to the room, I saw a terrible sight. My siblings were being pulled into the shadow, instead of pulling them out. I gasped, running forward, just as Aspen fell in & the shadow pool closed. I jumped on the spot where they had been, but just like Ivy, it was like they had never been there at all. I sobbed, not caring if anyone heard. No one was there anyway. I walked to the kitchen, & picked up the phone again, dialing 911. "911, what's your emergency?" asked the operator. "I know this is going to sound crazy, but my whole family just got sucked into a shadow lake during the earthquake." I said into the phone. "Your family, got sucked, into shadow, during the earthquake?" asked the operator, not convinced. "How old are you, kid?" she asked. "I'm nine, ten in October." I said, fully aware it was June, & she seemed to tired to care. The operator sighed. "Are you sure it was not a nightmare?" she asked, yawning. "There was no earthquake." she said, & I suddenly felt sick. "What do you mean? My twin & foster family just got sucked into shadow during the earthquake. I know what I saw! I was awake when it started. I was getting a glass of water." I explained. "Wait a second, foster? Are they doing something to you and your sister?" the operator asked. "What? No! They are the best family I know!" I exclaimed. "So, a missing people case?" she asked. "Yes!" I cried. "Alright, I will send over some officers." she said, & soon enough, I heard the sirens. I was glad she had listened to me, but something felt off. Why would shadows attack me & my family? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow!
