Instructions

Here's the second edition of Dragons of Pomona, this time featuring the TuskWings, probably my favorite tribe! All of these species are open, meaning you can create your own if you feel inspired! Suggestions, commentary, and questions are always welcome! Basic Information: - TuskWings are wyverns, and lack front legs. - Their habitat consists of tundra environments and occasionally the peaks of snowy mountains. Because of their thick fur, relocating them to a warmer area would be hard for them to adjust to (like moving a polar bear to a desert), which is why they stick to cold habitats. - They speak Dragon for the most part, but when trying to shield dragonet's ears from secrets or have uninterpreted conversations around other tribes, they speak a hidden language that sounds a bit like seal noises, consisting of barking, yipping, grunting, and growling. Their form of Dragon, however, is different from other continents', and Pyrrhian or Pantalan dragons will hear what sounds like their seal talk. - They have two long tusks (their namesake) protruding from their mouths. Tusk length often determines one's status among the tribe, making dragonets at the bottom of the hierarchy and older dragons at the top. - They are covered in patches of thick fur, used to insulate their reptilian bodies from the cold. They still feel some aspects of the cold, as their fur doesn't fully shield them. - They are the smallest tribe in Pomona, only about 10-12 feet tall with stout bodies, rather than long and serpentine like other tribes. They also have the lowest population. - They can swim well, though not as good as TideWings. They can also hold their breath for up to ten minutes at a time, making them the second best swimming species on Pomona, though this is not what they're known for. - Their colors usually consist of cool colors mixed with white and light gray, and not super saturated. - Their talons are tough and insulated to protect them from cuts and frostbite. This also allows them to move easier in the snow, as their claws aren't freezing. - They hunt similar to arctic foxes: locating their prey under the snow, jumping and diving into it, and swiftly capturing and killing the animal. - Speaking of prey, TuskWing diets consist mainly of small mammals and seals, with the occasional polar bear, wolf, fox, or fish. - Their fur color changes during the summer from whites and blues to darker grays and browns to camouflage as the snow melts. - Their eggs are said to be very beautiful, with marble patterns on their shells that resemble northern lights. - TuskWings only lay 1 to 2 eggs at a time, which require a lot of work. They must be incubated by the parents- partners taking turns- by positioning the egg on top of their feet under the fur on their bellies. If the incubation process is neglected, the dragon could die before it hatches. - TuskWing scales are slightly cold to the touch. - They are also the only tribe that can breed with other tribes without repercussions. In the case of the other three tribes, breeding with another species of dragon has a good chance of a hybrid dragonet that dies within a week or is born with a birth defect. TuskWings have the best genes of the tribes, and several hybrids have been documented in history, but they prefer to stick to their own kind for the most part. - They're known for being able to survive in subzero temperatures and their small size. - TuskWings live in caves, igloos, and tunnels they've dug in the snowbanks. - The king is the most respected member of the royal family, having the most power with the queen coming in a close second. Princes and princesses are respected, but their tribe doesn't obey their orders. They adorn themselves with icicles, as well as other jewelry and long capes. - The naming process fits a snowy/arctic theme (ex: Penguin, Snowdrift, Icicle) - They're more comfortable around their own tribe, but will interact peacefully with other tribes if approached. - TuskWings from different areas of the continent have distinctive accents. - They have coordinated flight skills, but not as advanced as QuillWings. - When not hunting, relaxing, or spending time with others, TuskWings love to swim, fly, and mess around in the snow. - They will willingly share their territory with other tribes (as the continent lives in peace), but other dragons don't usually go out of their way to enter freezing cold land, as they aren't as adapted to it.
